JMW appoints joint head of real estate commercial

Majid Mahmood has been promoted to equity partner and will lead the law firm’s real estate commercial team alongside Thomas Pearson.

Mahmood has been a partner with JMW Solicitors since he joined the company in December 2015 from North Ainley Solicitors. Mahmood is experienced in the acquisition and disposal of commercial real estate, commercial and residential development, and the landlord and tenant sector.

Mahmood’s clients include banks and building societies, as well as wholesalers like LWC Drinks.

“I joined JMW seven years ago, during which time the real estate commercial team has continued to go from strength to strength,” Mahmood said.

“[The team] is now one of the UK’s largest specialist real estate teams and I look forward to working alongside Thomas and the other partners to secure its continued growth.”

Mahmood’s promotion comes as the JMW real estate commercial team grow its turnover by 22%, advising on deals of more than £1bn in the past financial year. The law firm also supported clients in delivering more than 3,500 social homes. Over that year, JMW acted for numerous clients including CityFibre, Grafton Land and Property, Investar Developments, Blackacre, Northold Group, and HSPG.

Pearson said: “We have had a record financial year in real estate commercial, continuing to support long-standing clients across the UK, while welcoming a host of exciting new ones.

“We anticipate an equally busy period ahead, so it’s fantastic to have Majid as joint head of department as we focus on providing clients with the very best advice, expertise and support.”

Earlier this financial year, JMW hired partner David Frankland and associates Will Garnett and Khilen Mehta. The law firm now has a staff of 50 in its real estate commercial team.
