Internet firm buys second Trafford building

Expanding data centre firm M247.com has acquired the freehold of an 8,500 sq ft office building in Cobra Court, Trafford Park.

The building is close to M247.com's head office and existing data centre in Trafford Park, which will remain.

Chris Byrd, technical director of the internet infrastructure company, said the deal was "too good to miss", although the terms of the sale were not disclosed.

He added: "We are very fortunate that this building was offered to us at a very reasonable price and, considering its close proximity to our existing datacentre, we realise how lucky we've been."

He went on: "Since the internet and data markets are still growing at an incredible rate while the property market has at best appeared to have plateaued, it's obvious that rather than rent space we just had to buy this new property."

The new building will house a large expansion of IceColo.com, the buyer's server co-location division. Byrd describes the new datacentre as being "carrier neutral" which means it will be open to any customer with existing deals with any telecoms provider.

Work on creating the new data centre will begin at the end of October.

Paul Smith at Jones Lang LaSalle advised the vendor, who was unnamed. Cobra Court was developed by Marshall CDP.
