International engineer signs at Soapworks
Infrastructure engineering company MWH Global has agreed to take 25,000 sq ft in Block B of the Carlyle Group and joint venture partners Nikal and Abstract Securities’ £70m Soapworks redevelopment in Salford Quays.
Soapworks is a 400,000 sq ft redevelopment of the former Colgate-Palmolive factory. Phase one and two at Soapworks totalled around 230,000 sq ft, while phase three can bring forward up to 160,000 sq ft.
According to The Carlyle Group, around 90% of the first two phases has been let, after securing a 106,000 sq ft deal with TalkTalk and a 54,000 sq ft letting to the Home Office earlier this year.
MWH has agreed to take the space in Block B over two floors on a 10-year lease.
MWH will be the first tenant to occupy the second phase of Soapworks following its official completion earlier this year.
Ben Du Boulay, director of The Carlyle Group, said: “For an internationally recognised business such as MWH Global to acquire office space at Soapworks is a major endorsement of the new environment we have created. Our commitment to provide a working environment that is unique, modern and versatile has seen us successfully let 90% of our space to welcome renowned brands to Manchester and building relationships with the highest calibre of clients as a result.”
Chris Mulcahy, director of JLL, represented The Carlyle Group and MWH were represented by CBRE.
JLL and Canning O’Neill are joint agents on the Soapworks scheme.
