ICT academy added to Media City mix

A new secondary school specialising in information and communication technology is being planned as part of Peel's Media City UK in Salford.

The Oasis Academy will cater for students from 14 to 19 on a site off Broadway on the edge of Media City UK.

The school will open for the academic year 2011 and complements the Music, Media and Performance department of Salford University which is relocating to the scheme.

Peel is keen to nurture talent at the site and plans a venture capital company to sit alongside its property arm to invest in tenants and spin-off companies.

Work is well underway on the initial phase of Media City, anchored by the five relocating BBC departments. The first BBC staff arrive at the end 2010.
