Icon wraps up £250m Manchester Airport warehouse scheme

The joint venture between Stoford and TPG Real Estate has completed work on the development’s final phase, a 459,000 sq ft warehouse for THG.

Icon Industrial had purchased 45 acres off Sunbank Lane by Manchester Airport in 2017, turning the land into a logistics hub.

The joint venture’s project included four large buildings: the THG warehouse, a 376,000 sq ft content creation studio that is also for THG, Alpha LSG’s 103,000 sq ft industrial hub and a 141,000 sq ft warehouse. All buildings are occupied.

Winvic was the principal contractor for the THG warehouse build.

“We are extremely proud to have built Icon Manchester Airport into one of the highest quality logistics locations in the UK,” said Stoford’s joint managing director Dan Gallagher. “The fact that deals for all four units were concluded so quickly is testament to Icon Manchester Airport’s unrivalled location in the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.”

Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese commented on Icon Manchester Airport’s role in boosting the economy of the area.

“From the very beginning this scheme represented a belief in the city as a serious place to invest and do business,” Leese said. “The importance of this type of logistics development cannot be underestimated and builds on the strength of Manchester Airport as a key strategic location for global commerce – which is a vital commodity as Manchester and the North continue on a path of economic recovery due to the pandemic.”
