IBI wins college campus masterplan

The Manchester College has selected IBI Group to design the £20m overhaul of campuses in Openshaw, Harpurhey and Wythenshawe.

The £300,000 masterplan contract is part of the further education college’s ambition of moving into university provision while also rationalising its 14-site estate from 1m sq ft to 600,000 sq ft.

TMC is the largest further education provider in the country, with 1,700 employees and 23,000 students, and emerged over decades of mergers and acquisitions.

IBI Group, which has its office in Didsbury, will develop proposals to upgrade the main campus in Openshaw on Ashton Old Road. There will be new road and access, bus drop-off area and sports building with pitches.

The Harpurhey campus will have a redeveloped dining room to provide public-facing units for work experience in hair dressing, leisure, catering, baking and food retail.

In Wythenshawe, the existing building finished in 2011 will be remodelled to offer more office space and administrative areas.

The Manchester College is a trading name of LTE Group.
