IBI hires Manchester office head

IBI Group has appointed Peter Ridley, formerly a partner at Foster & Partners and head of architecture for Atkins in China, as head of its Manchester studio.

Ridley joined the company this month following his work as a freelance consultant. He will be the director of buildings and replaces Seamus Lennon as head of office. Lennon left the practice in December to join Fletcher Rae.

Ridley has led studios across the UK and Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and North America, and has worked on projects including the Pacific Dream Plaza in China, the UK’s National Police Memorial, Imperial College London Business School, and the Palace of Peace & Reconciliation Kazakhstan.

He will lead a team of more than 70 professionals in Manchester and will take responsibility for the continued development of IBI’s growth. IBI is based in Didsbury, although it is considering relocating into the city centre.

Tony Burley, UK & Ireland regional director said: “We are pleased to welcome Peter to the senior team within IBI. His commitment to design quality and proven business skill make him a great fit, and he joins us at an exciting time in our growth plan as we work towards integrating all our service lines under one roof in central Manchester.”

Ridley added: “Joining IBI Group in Manchester presents great opportunities as we look to consolidate our extensive North West teams in the city centre, and build upon IBI’s existing reputation as one of the largest and most trusted truly global design firms in the region.”
