Hydrock hires from Jacobs

In its second hire from Jacobs in the last two months, Hydrock has appointed Martyn Long as technical director of its structural engineering business, based in the company’s Albert Square office in Manchester.

Long joins from fellow consultant Jacobs where he was structural engineering lead for the buildings and infrastructure business in its Manchester office for nearly five years. He has also previously worked for Arup.

Projects Long has worked on include Metrolink’s Second City Crossing and Manchester Airport’s £1bn transformation programme, as well as the British Airways i360 in Brighton.

In his new role, will be responsible forgrowing Hydrock’s structural engineering offering in the North West, leading projects across sectors including residential, retail, aviation, leisure, commercial, and higher education.

He will work under Hydrock’s national director for structural engineering, Jerry King, who said: “Martyn’s extensive experience in the industry, alongside his project management experience and level of technical expertise across numerous sectors equips him extremely well for this role.

“We are looking forward to expanding our national presence further into the North West, delivering projects for clients who are looking for a technically outstanding, solution-driven engineering consultant.”

Long’s appointment is the latest in a spate of hires at Hydrock, which added principal fire engineer Rui Sun to its Manchester team earlier this year.

Paul Hooton also joined from Jacobs in March this year as technical director in the company’s land quality arm, while Jonathon Sander was hired from Capita as senior geo-environmental consultant.
