Housing proposed for outdated industrial site

Thornhill Holdings has submitted an outline planning application for a new residential development in Sandbach, Cheshire, comprising up to 56 new homes.

If approved, the housing will replace business premises on the site, currently occupied by Core Fulfilment, an ecommerce distribution handler, which will soon move to more modern space within the region.

HOW Planning, advising Thornhill, said the Lodge Road site has been marketed for potential employment opportunities since the existing occupier raised its intention to relocate, but following a period of 12 months there has been no demand from commercial occupiers, leading to Thornhill Holding’s decision to convert the site into a residential opportunity.

Rhian Harris, planner at HOW Planning, added: “The plans for the Lodge Road site will not only rejuvenate what is an aging brownfield site, but will also provide much needed new housing for the area, helping to contribute to the council’s five-year supply, in a location which is much more suitable for residential development.”

The Lodge Road site is bounded by houses to the North with an additional residential application to the North East of the site currently being considered by the council, which together would further add to the predominantly residential nature of the area.

I thought the local housing plan was agreed. How can the existing road and local amenities cope with anymore houses?
Sandbach soon will be the place to leave not to live in!
