Home Group targets summer start on £12m Carlisle housing
The Home Group is planning to put in an application this month for a 65-apartment extra care development at Lightfoot Drive, aiming to start on site in the summer and complete by spring 2022.
A public consultation was held last week for the scheme proposed on the site of Petteril House. Responding to feedback, Home Group said some tweaks would be made to the parking provision and the café restaurant set to be included within the scheme, ahead of the application submission.
The homes will be a mix of 40 one-bedroom flats and 25 two-bedroom flats, providing residents with extra care support. All of the flats will be available for affordable rent.
The development will sit on the site of a former residential care home which was owned by the council, which will be demolished to make way for Home Group’s scheme.
The service at Petteril House is set to “maximise the independence of people requiring ongoing care, such as those with health conditions and the elderly,” Home Group said.
Cumbria County Council commissioned the project and formed a partnership with Home Group to deliver the scheme. The land is owned by Cumbria County Council.
Home Group provides health and social care infrastructure and housing. It has 55,000 properties across England, Scotland and Wales. It is on target to build 10,000 homes by 2022, supported by its sale arm Persona which it launched in 2018.
Teresa Snaith, head of development at Home Group, said: “Home Group has a long history in building supported services, and we work hard to ensure the environments we create are designed to maximise independence for those that live in them.
“We want residents to remain active for longer, less isolated and empowered to do the things they love. Our services also encourage engagement with the local community, including the creation of shared facilities and amenities that everyone can use and enjoy.”
The scheme was designed by Brewster Bye Architects, and is set to be built by contractor Engie.
