Home Group plots 40 Whitehaven houses

The housing association intends to deliver 28 bungalows and 12 two-bedroom houses, all available at affordable rents.

Working with design practice Architects Plus UK, Home Group has lodged plans with Copeland Council for the project, at land off Fell View Avenue and Windermere Road.

The project is Home’s latest scheme in the area. The organisation is a long-standing housing association with an additional focus on health and care.

As set out in the plans, the scheme comprises 24 two-bedroom bungalows, four three-bedroom bungalows and 12 two-bedroom houses.

According to Architects Plus’ design & access statement, “the project aims to provide an attractive, affordable and secure development, with dwellings which appeal to young couples, families and older residents. The layout and dwelling design aims to respond to its context, such that it complements the existing community.”

The proposal is inked in for the Woodhouse area, 1.3m away from Whitehaven town centre close to the A595. The site itself used to be occupied by housing, demolished 10 years ago with the land now used as informal leisure space.

Copeland Council’s reference number for the application is 4/22/2359/0F1.

Does “affordable” nearly always have to result in such blandness?
