Hall & Co lines up next Stockport project
Already on site at Albion House and St Mary’s Gate, the developer has submitted proposals for 27 apartments at 48 Churchgate, a scheme designed by Ollier Smurthwaite.
The plans would see the demolition of existing buildings and the redevelopment of a car park. Broadgrove Planning & Development is advising.
The development, on the edge of the town centre, will include one- and two-bedroom apartments. Hall & Co said that “residents will enjoy a private communal garden, plus a winter garden in each apartment”.
Director Jamie Hall said: “48 Churchgate is a continuation of a series of projects we are underway with in the Underbanks area, transforming underused buildings to create high-quality new apartments. We’re pleased to be able to invest further in Stockport town centre, contributing to the exciting new vision for the town and its ambitious housing targets.”
Alderley Edge-headquartered Hall & Co is currently working on projects at Albion House and St Mary’s Gate in the Underbanks, both of which involve residential and workspace.
The firm’s first project in Stockport was co-working space ProFolk, which saw the restoration of the grade two-listed Bank Chambers. Live schemes elsewhere include Kings Row in Macclesfield, Curtis Farm in Henbury, Cheshire and Y Bluen Goch in Conwy.
This is really fantastic. Dense development in vernacular style. More of this please!

Need to sort out roads before any more houses apartments ar built as they are not good enough to take the flow off traffic one accident in stockprt cause havoc

Billy – how do you propose solving homelessness without building homes?

How many of these flats will go to Stockport people? Not many I’ll wager, mostly to rich investors who’ll rent out at ridiculous rates. Remember Stockport council, you are supposed to represent local people not just rich people sucking the life out of the town

Note to Billy, more than happy to agree we do indeed need more social housing in Stockport and elsewhere. That doesn’t happen easily without public money, in the meantime I can’t see why stifling market rate housing helps anyone.

It’s all very well building accommodation but the area has HUGE parking issues and this along with high rents is forcing local residents anguish and pushing them out of the area they call home. I am in agreement with regeneration of areas but not at the expense of local residents well being. The roads definitely need improving around the area. The impact on residents both from the building and road closures during construction will also impact residents and drivers alike. How much more do the residents of Edgeley, have to endure?

I love people complaining about high rents and not enough space for parking in the same breath because it’s parking mandates which have forced rents and house prices to skyrocket in recent decades. Forcing all developers to provide ridiculously expensive and un-neccessary parking spaces all adds £££ to development costs, which are passed onto renters and homeowners.
Car-free developments are way cheaper to provide, sell, and rent out – and place less of a burden on council resources, leading to lower council tax for all. That’s an uncomfortable truth for a lot of the car-pilled commenters on here though

We need family homes , not more high rises

People who live in central Stockport like this development shouldn’t need to have their own personal car. People need to stop seeing a car as a need to live.

This remark says more about the person making it than who it’s referring to.

“without a car you’ve no life”. Lol I’m saving for an early retirement by not having the financial burden of a car. Enjoy sitting in traffic and working til you’re 70
