Green Rooms tower opens to tenants

Peel L&P’s £55m The Green Rooms, billed as MediaCityUK’s first built-to-rent development, has opened its doors to residents after two years of construction.

Bouygues UK, the main contractor, completed the build in December last year on behalf of MediaCityUK’s joint venture partners Peel L&P and Legal & General Capital.

The 238-apartment, 19-storey tower was funded by Atlas Residential and IP Investment Management. The investors acquired the site from Peel in autumn 2017.

Four students from Manchester School of Art, led by artist Aster Muro, are creating and installing a large fresco in the building’s lobby.

The scheme topped out in January last year.

Selina Williams, executive director of IP Investment Management, said: “With Green Rooms as the very first large-scale build-to-rent project within the heart of Media City, we are seeking to redefine residential living in the area.”

Chris Reay, property director at MediaCityUK, said: “The Green Rooms brings another high-quality residential offering to MediaCityUK which is situated in a fantastic location on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal, overlooking the Coronation Street studios.”

The scheme was designed by AHR Architects. AmroLiving is the on-site building operator.
