Green light for Silverlane’s 25-storey Eccles tower
With work on one major residential scheme in the Salford town underway, the developer has now secured consent for a second.
Salford City Council has granted Silverlane Developments planning approval for a 25-storey apartment project on the site of the former Vauxhall garage on the corner of Albert Street and Peel Street.
“This will be an iconic landmark development, which is integral towards the regeneration of the town centre,” said Silverlane managing director Steve Carnes.
The 256-home development takes the number of properties Silverlane is developing in Eccles over the 600 mark.
BCEGI recently started work construction of a 272-apartment project featuring a 23-storey tower on Church Street nearby.
Both schemes, which equate to a £100m investment, are designed by Jeffery Bell Architects.
“This is our second major project for Silverlane Developments in Eccles and involves the creation of a distinctive place and a destination building that will assist in enhancing the emerging masterplan and make another significant contribution the reemergence of town centre,” the architect said.
The Albert Street project comprises a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and six townhouses.
The plot was previously the subject of proposals by Cheshire Estates for a 22-storey scheme featuring 150 apartments.
The company lodged plans for the project in 2019 but scrapped them two years later.
According to Companies House, Cheshire Estates is now in liquidation.
Great news for Eccles

And where will all those apartment owners park their cars?

Cool. It’s an inoffensive slab of mundane and that’s fine given where it is and what it’s for. However, it amuses me that there’s been decades of demolishing buildings that look just like it, only to rebuild them.

Nice balconies. People in Salford are lucky not to have MCC planning authority telling developers to remove them all.

Good use of the old Vauxhall site. Really handy for the tram into town but also Eccles station. I suspect these are going to be more popular than people realise.

It’s great if you are a landlord for example, but as a resident, what about the strain on the NHS, Dentists, Schools and GPs, Transport, which is already under strain.
