Green light for Network Space at Mere Grange

The Newton-le-Willows developer has been granted planning consent at Mere Grange, its 30-acre strategic development site in St Helens earmarked for industrial and residential buildings.

The permission enables work to start on a phased development of industrial work to the east of the site and 120 homes in the western portion. Mere Grange sits on the A570 St Helens Linkway between the town centre and M62.

Working with St Helens Council and the Homes & Communities Agency, Network Space is now working up the first phase of industrial, comprising 90,250 sq ft in four buildings. A second phase could offer up to 60,000 sq ft. Work is expected to start in 2017.

Cllr John Fulham, cabinet member for growth at St Helens, said: “We know from speaking to businesses across the borough that there’s a real need for smaller, modern light industrial units to support growing businesses and it’s welcome to see a private developer with a strong local record investing to meet that need.”

Stephen Barnes, managing director of development for Network Space, described initial enquiry levels as “very encouraging”. The site is being marketed by B8 Real Estate.
