Green light for Moston campus revamp
Housing association One Manchester is to build 60 affordable homes at the site off Ashley Lane.
The scheme, designed by tp bennett, will see the former Manchester College buildings demolished and the three-acre site redeveloped into 50 houses and 10 apartments after the city council approved the plans.
A total of 28 of the houses are to have two bedrooms and the remaining 22 will have three.
The 10 apartments are evenly split between one and two-bedroom properties and will be available for social rent.
Of the houses, 33 are to be earmarked for shared ownership and 17 for rent-to-buy.
The redevelopment of the Moston campus is a by-product of Manchester College’s £139m estate revamp.
LTE Group, which operates Manchester College, is in the process of consolidating its disparate estate by disposing of some of its ageing assets and building several new facilities, including the £54m city centre campus on part of the former Boddington’s brewery site in Manchester.
Having sold the 18-acre Northenden Campus to Miller Homes earlier this year, the Manchester College operator is also seeking a buyer for Fielden Campus off Barlow Moor Road in West Didsbury.
In addition, LTE has also sold its St John’s Campus on the edge of Spinningfields. The 39,000 sq ft building is earmarked for demolition by developer HBD, which is readying plans to redevelop the site into offices.
The eight-acre Nicholls Campus in Ardwick is another site LTE is looking to offload. The land is considered suitable for housing and has been incorporated within the Ardwick Green neighbourhood development framework.
The overall estate strategy is designed to “transform the Manchester College and UCEN Manchester’s education and training delivery locations over the next two years”, according to LTE.
One Manchester was formed in 2015 from a merger between City South and Eastlands Homes. The association currently owns and manages more than 12,000 homes across Manchester.
