Green light for £7m Kendal business park
Outline approval has been granted to R Smith Windemere, trading as Rayrigg Motors, on plans for a 16.5-acre site north of Meadowbank Business Park, off Shap Road.
The development will extend 50m beyond the town boundary.
South Lakeland Council approved the application unanimously at a committee meeting on Thursday.
Working with planner and architect Hough Tullett, the plans were submitted as a hybrid application. This included full permission for a roundabout off the A6, a spine road linked to the roundabout, a Kia dealership and a shared access road serving the site [alongside the park’s outline approval].
The motor dealership will have a main showroom, a car park with 278 spaces, including 39 electric vehicle charging points, a 10.7m by 5.7m vehicle shelter and a 5.5m by 4m bike shelter.
The project team consists of arboriculture surveyors Arbconsultants, flooding and drainage consultants Inside Geo and Envirotech as the ecological advisers. The landscaping was done by Galpin Landscape Architecture, and Wardell Armstrong was the air quality and archaeological inspector. A transport report was compiled by iTransport Planning.
This application’s number with South Lakeland Council is SL/2019/0743, and development is due to begin this year, with completion expected around spring 2023.
