Great Places eyes summer start for Oldham homes

The housing group is expecting to deliver 46 affordable homes off Vaughan Street in Royton by spring 2025, following approval by the council’s planning committee earlier this month.

Architect MPSL designed the scheme, which will create 12 two-, 30 three-, and four four-bedroom homes.

Work will start on converting the brownfield land this summer.

The three-acre site formerly housed Our Lady’s School, which was demolished in 2013 after merging with John Henry Newman Roman Catholic College.

There will be a total of 104 car parking spaces for residents. Each property will be provided with an electric vehicle charging point, as well as a cycle shed with space for up to two bikes each.

Hive Land and Planning is the scheme’s planning consultant.

Also on the project team is landscape consultant Trevor Bridge Associates and transport consultant Eddisons. Hepworth Acoustics is noise consultant.

Looking at the site layout could it be that it may be encroaching onto Shaw road end park. There have been a number of applications due to this but we must remember that the park was left to US for all time? SO HANDS OFF if that’s the case.

Can’t see any encroachment. Get building

Totally under-developed site. Should be more townhouses, some apartments and nice public realm. Constant under-development of brownfield sites in GM, primarily from RPs.

More council bungalows should be considered. Already too much traffic congestion in this area. Residents currently living in this proposed area have no outside activities area for children to play

Hope we get a bigger Mosque. The community is expanding rapidly
