Great Places completes The Byrons
The housing group has officially completed the £5.5m extra care facility in Higher Blackley near Middleton, north Manchester.
Designed by architects Pozzoni and built by construction and development firm Southdale, the scheme includes 40 two-bedroom apartments and received £2.9m investment from the Homes & Communities Agency.
Deputy Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Elaine Boyes, joined partners to officially open the The Byrons.
The apartments are designed for tenants aged over 55 and were named after the poet Lord Byron whose family were landowners in the area.
The Byrons has solar panels, an air source heat pump system that distributes warm air around the building, plus communal hot water and underfloor heating.
Art and health specialists Open Art handled the interior design of the scheme and also commissioned art for the walls and sculptures for the garden.
Cllr Glynn Evans, Manchester City Council's executive member for adult services, said: "These new apartments will provide a real bonus to Manchester's older residents, and the City Council will be providing 24 hour care support to those who need it, enabling them to live dignified, independent lives."
