Great Places acquires 51 Greater Manchester homes

Vistry Group has sold homes at two of its developments to the housing association.

Great Places Housing Group has bought 51 homes in Salford and Rochdale, which will be available for shared ownership and affordable rent.

The housing association has snapped up 27 shared ownership homes at The Fairways, part of Vistry’s redevelopment of the former Brackley Golf Course.

The scheme also features 138 private rented sector homes and 180 open market homes under the Simple Life and Countryside brands respectively.

In Rochdale, Great Places has bought 24 homes at Vistry’s Calico Grove development in Castleton.

Great Places’ latest acquisition means that the RP now owns 126 homes at the development, which consists of 222 homes in total.

Joe Turner, managing director at Vistry for Manchester and Cheshire East, said: “Both of our organisations are committed to delivering more mixed-tenure, affordable homes, and by working together on these two sites we can offer more housing choice to local people and help meet Greater Manchester’s pressing need for affordable housing.”

Nick Gornall, director of development at Great Places, added: “Affordable housing continues to be a key priority in all of the areas we operate in, and Vistry shares our ongoing commitment to creating great homes across a wide variety of communities.

“Our acquisition of 27 shared ownership homes at The Fairways and 24 homes at Calico Grove is part of this commitment to provide much-needed affordable housing options.”

The first completions of the affordable homes at The Fairways will be in the summer of 2024, with the apartment block at Calico Grove scheduled to be complete by summer 2025.

Interesting to see that ‘mixed communities’ now mean a majority of affordable housing with a minority of affordable housing for sale.

I wonder if this will become the norm in the future?
