Graham wins Murrays’ Mills contract
Manchester Life Development Company, the JV between the council and Manchester City FC owner Abu Dhabi United Group, has picked Graham Construction to develop Murrays’ Mills in Ancoats.
Murrays’ Mills will be converted into 124 apartments of one, two or three bedrooms, offered for sale. Manchester Life plans to create more than 900 homes in Ancoats and New Islington.
The vision for the scheme was part of a Manchester Life announcement at MIPIM 2015. Planning permission and listed building consent were granted for the scheme in July 2015, providing an opportunity to secure the re-use of the oldest surviving steam powered cotton mills.
Marty Edelman, executive chairman of Manchester Life Development Company, said: “Our absolute priority is to preserve the heritage of one of Manchester’s most important historical buildings, and in doing so, create a flagship residential scheme in keeping with the character of Ancoats. Murrays’ Mills will provide a unique living experience for the 124 owners, and importantly will serve as a catalyst for further regeneration in the area.”
Development work will start in March 2016, with apartments ready for occupation by autumn 2017.
