Govt grants CWAC £1.2m for Winsford Town Centre regen
The funding comes from the latest Brownfield Land Release Fund announcements, which also awarded Blackpool Council £170,000.
In total, more than £8m was released to 13 councils in England as part of the announcement on 24 February.
Cheshire West and Chester Council said the £1.2m would go towards building up to 100 new homes in Winsford. It would also help with the moving of the Phoenix Depot off Clough Road – a project that’s planning application is set to be submitted in the next six to eight weeks.
“This is excellent news and adds to our plans for improvements to Winsford Town Centre and enabling the development of much needed new housing,” said Gemma Davies, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s director of economy and housing.
“The existing Phoenix Depot is being relocated to other depot facilities to ensure these vital services continue and this funding will be used to clear the site in readiness for redevelopment for zero-carbon mixed tenure housing, part of the revitalisation of Winsford town centre.”
CWAC first introduced its regeneration ambitions for Winsford in 2016. Elsewhere in Winsford, CWAC has embarked on a revamp of the Winsford Cross Shopping Centre. Plans were submitted in January for that project.
