Go-ahead secured for Warrington SEND school
Working for the Department for Education, Reds10 has won planning consent for a two-storey 56-pupil academy on land east of Blackbrook Avenue in Padgate.
Reds10’s project will include playing fields and multi-use games area, canopies and hard and soft landscaping. The proposals went to Warrington’s development management committee last week, and were approved by members.
The site is council-owned. The Sovereign Trust will operate the school.
DHA Planning is also advising on the project, along with HLM Architects, MAC Consulting, JKP, Design ID, Jensen Hughes, DBX Acoustics, and Harwood.
Reds10 is an offsite construction specialist, working from a production facility in East Yorkshire.
As set out in the design & access statement, the new-build two-storey school building is proposed to be a special school, predominantly catering for ambulant pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition.
However, if needed, places will be provided for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health or Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
It is not envisaged that the school will cater for Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities needs at this stage.
The site, which as a whole amounts to around 195,000 sq ft, is described as semi-suburban, and is close to Padgate station.
Approval had been recommended, the loss of some open space being made up for by the provision of 56 SEND spaces meeting a local need, with what will be a relatively low-impact development.
Documents relating to the plans can be viewed on Warrington’s planning portal with the reference 2024/01173/FUL.
