Go-ahead secured for Rochdale care home
Cityside’s Sparth House scheme will see the redevelopment of a Manchester Road site into a four-storey facility comprising 21 dementia care beds, 48 nursing bedrooms and five respite bedrooms.
The application was approved by Rochdale Council’s planning committee this week, A further substantial item, a Wain Homes project of 45 homes in Bamford, was deferred.
Designed by BCAE Architects, the Sparth House project west of Rochdale town centre will include communal lounges, a café, a prayer room and dining area, along with roof terraces for residents.
Mosaic Town Planning worked with Cityside, with the professional team also including Artal, Urban Green, Redmore Environmental, DaySun Solutions, NOVO Integration, E3P, i-Transport, EnviroSolution, Tyrer Ecological Consultants and RJP Consulting.

The scheme had been recommended for approval with officers noting that Cityside’s development would “provide much-needed care facilities [and] would be beneficial in terms of meeting the borough’s needs for care provision”.
Sparth House, which will replace a two-story house on the site, first went to committee in March with approval recommended by officers. A decision was deferred, with members questioning the height of the scheme and issues around trees. Those matters have been addressed, with viability advisors agreeing that the scheme will not work at a smaller scale.
The facility is to be managed by Parklands Care/Arm Around Care Group, which also operates care homes in Preston.

It’s okay opening new care homes but I think CQC should sort out the care homes in heywood and surrounding areas considering the poor care elderly people receive and parkland in Preston isn’t the best run neither l
