Go-ahead for Your Housing in Liverpool

Liverpool City Council has granted planning permission for Your Housing Group to build an 84-home development on the site of a former market in Kensington.

Wigan firm MCI Developments has been appointed as architect and contractor. Site work will start this month, with construction in earnest beginning at the end of June. The project is due for completion by November 2020.

The £10.5m development is to be called Market Grange, and is part-funded with a £3.15m grant from Homes England – Your Housing became one of the organisation’s strategic partners earlier this year.

In total there will be 54 one and two bedroom apartments within two blocks, available for affordable rent. The scheme also includes 30 two and three-bedroom houses available for shared ownership. The development will have landscaping and parking for more than 100 cars as well as on-site cycle storage. The 2.3-acre site lies on land south of Prescot Road between Lister Road and Lockerby Road.

The two three-storey blocks of apartments will face onto Prescot Road, with the two-storey housing to the rear.

Lorraine Donnelly, director of development for Your Housing Group said: “This development is designed to offer young families the opportunity to live close to the city centre in much-needed affordable homes.

“Prescot Road is one of Liverpool’s historic high streets and the scheme will contribute towards the ongoing regeneration of this area, supporting the local district centre. A range of retail, leisure and community amenities are all within easy walking distance of the site.”

@PDM, So glad you are impressed, easily pleased. I can just see you now sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine and your copy of The Daily Troll.

Anyone who lives in Kenny knows no one wants to live there. We’re all trying to get out. Not stay. These will be 2nd and 3rd yr Student accomodation within 5yrs…

CGIs often do a disservice, but Jeez these look a bleak design! Does good design genuinely cost that much more?
