Go-ahead for Taylor Wimpey’s 300 Crewe homes

The development, known as Millbrook Place, will be built on land off David Whitby Way south of the Cheshire town.

Cheshire East Council has approved plans from housebuilder Taylor Wimpey, with government agency Homes England, to construct a mix of 305 two-, three-, and four-bedroom houses on the 47-acre site near Crewe.

The homes are due to be launched for off-plan sale in December, with the first units expected to be delivered in autumn 2023.

As well as the residential component – which also features affordable housing – Millbrook Place will feature large areas of public open space and retain ecological habitats along neighbouring Basford Brook. There will also be a community orchard, children’s play area and planted areas with native species, according to the plans.

The development is to contribute £4.5m towards the maintenance of local highways, pedestrian and cycle ways, bus services, the primary school and the local cemetery.

“We have worked closely with Homes England and Cheshire East Council to ensure that the scheme provides new homes within a high-quality designed landscaping development supporting the wider growth and investment within Crewe,” said Ian Harrison, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey North West.

Taylor Wimpey acquired the site from Homes England as part of its growth strategy. Hannah Waite, head of disposals at Homes England added: “We’re committed to helping our partners bring forward high-quality new homes in areas that need them most, so we’re pleased to see that planning permission has been granted for this development.

“Homes England’s aspiration for this site was to see a scheme of high design quality with a focus on placemaking. This has been achieved through this application and ensures that Millbrook Place will be part of a thriving community for a long time to come.”

The project team also comprises Avison Young as the planner, GTD as architect, Randall Thorp as landscape masterplanner, and Edge as the engineer.
