Galliford Try picked for Bolton Green Belt school

The Department for Education has awarded the construction firm a £19m contract to build King’s Leadership Academy.

Galliford Try has been selected as the main contractor for the Bolton project after the DfE pivoted from a modular to a traditional build.

Modular contractor Algeco, formerly Elliott Group, had been lined up to deliver the project and won planning approval for a 46,000 sq ft school on 16 acres of Green Belt south of Freshfield Avenue last year.

However, earlier this year, a series of tweaks to the plans were made, including switching to more traditional building materials.

A Department for Education spokesperson said: “An alternative contractor was found for this project to deliver the work to the required standards and timeline. We have remained in contact with stakeholders throughout the process.”

The 75,000 sq ft school will have capacity for 900 students.

Ryder is the architect for the latest iteration of the project, replacing DLA Design. DPP Planning is the planning consultant.
