Designed by Populous, the architect behind the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the scheme will see the capacity of Manchester City’s ground increase by nearly 8,000 to more than 60,000.

The scheme will also feature a 400-bedroom hotel, designed by WATG, and a covered fanzone.

Place North West reported earlier this week that Manchester City FC had lodged a planning application for the next phase of work at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, fresh images have been made available, depicting what the ground will look like in the future.

To learn more about the scheme, search for application reference number 136763/FO/2023 on Manchester City Council’s planning portal.

According to planning documents, Laing O’Rourke is lined up to deliver the North Stand expansion, while Sisk is primed for the hotel element of the scheme.

The project team also comprises Deloitte as planning consultant, Planit-IE as landscape architect, and Buro Happold as lead engineer.

Turner & Townsend is the quantity surveyor and Gardiner & Theobold is the project manager.

As well as an expanded north stand and connected hotel, the project would provide a sky bar and a roof walk experience.

The proposals also include several connected all-weather facilities, fully integrated into the stadium, a new club shop, and a museum.

Plans for 43,000 sq ft of offices are also included to provide coworking space for start-up and medium-sized organisations.

The bit that sticks out is annoying. Would look like a giant beetle otherwise.

£300m and that’s the best they can come up with? Dire.

Ugly and unbefitting exterior, obscuring stadium views (an already low elevation) for many approaching fans.
Interior average.
Covered area a good idea.

Well that totally ruins the design of one of the best designed stadiums in the country

Amazing

Giving planning permission for stadium expansion as well as huge indoor arena is complete insanity given the total lack adequate transport connections.Goid luck Manchester in trying to get rest Greater Manchester or government funding the massive increase in tram and rail provision needed this destination.

Beautiful…..many thanks to the people involved, from top to bottom, been City for 57 yrs, never thought I’d see the day when people can just utter “City” and everyone know who you mean.

I personally think that it would be fantastic for the surrounding areas.

Huge missed opportunity for anything that could have been so much more visually exciting and landmark (akin to Yas Island W hotel perhaps) – This feels like a 1970’s bolt on. Even the stadium extension itself misses the architectural fluidity of the 2015 expansion.

As a match day fan I’m very excited about these plans. With the use of the facilities at the arena next door, this will really encourage fans to get there earlier and leave later.

Fantastic to see even more investment in the stadium / surroundings / facilities however I am surprised that any architect would put their name behind this dreadful design. Be interesting to see what the planning authority make of it.

Such a disappointment!

A day out to Berwick? I can hardly contain my excitement.

A blocky, confused and haphazard mess. No idea as to the 1960s style glazed elevations on the hotel – they just look bizarre and dated. I know a few people who were involved in the construction of the original stadium in the early 2000s and are rightly proud of what they did producing a simple yet iconic stadium form for what was a great price (~£120 million) at the time. I assume many of them will be dismayed by these poorly executed proposals. Hope the council find some backbone and get them to amend this to improve it aesthetically that is more befitting of the stadium. They do after all have a stake in this.

Personally feel this is a bad use of the space. They could have built an 80 story tower here

Plenty of skyscrapers already Giant skyscraper fan, and plenty more coming.. You’ll be delighted you live here. Well done!

Funny how Paris and numerous other beautiful and successful cities do not have need loads tall apartment buildings but then they have worked class shopping and hotels and nightlife which Manchester has none of.

Looks like someone just found out the Warehouse Project has just been voted best club in the world

The extension to the main stadium looks awful, Populous should stick to what they know.
