Seddon Construction has delivered a total of 95,900 sq ft of space across three new buildings for the school, featuring a new arts facility and hair and beauty department.
Project3 Architects designed the project, which was delivered in two phases.
The first phase of Stockport College’s revamp saw the demolition of the Vernon Tower.
The arts facility was removed to make room for the new Arts Factory, which now houses all art courses, including fine art, graphic design, sculpting, games design and pottery.
Phase two saw the demolition of the school’s former theatre building off Wellington Road, to create the new Lyme Building.
The new facility offers students a learning resource centre, as well as two science labs and four foundation learning classrooms.
Students will find a hair and beauty department on the second floor of the Lyme Building, which provides two beauty salons and two hair salons.
Outside, a landscaped courtyard, designed by Urban Green, has been created.
The total project value for both phases was £23m, funded by GMCA, ESFA, and Stockport College itself.
Abacus Cost Management project managed the scheme, while WSP was planning consultant.
Also on the project team was quantity surveyor Rider Levett Bucknall.
Plans for both phases were submitted in 2018 and can be found by searching for application number DC/070690 on Stockport Council’s planning portal.
