ForViva kicks off Knowsley project

Social housing organisation ForViva has started work on a £1.6m affordable housing development in Stockbridge Village.

The scheme is being taken forward under the branding of ForViva group member Villages Housing Association and will see 16 homes built on the site of the derelict Barley Mow pub.

Work is scheduled for completion in May 2019. VHA is already working in Stockbridge Village, with a £12.4m extra care scheme at The Withens, which will provide 90 homes for older people, due to open in early 2019.

Last year, the landlord bought 14 homes for private rent in Marled Hey in the area.

Nigel Sedman, director of homes at ForViva, said: “It is great to see the progress we are making to transform this former derelict pub into much needed new affordable homes.

“We are working with the council and partners to deliver this scheme as part of our wider commitment to creating thriving communities in Stockbridge Village.”

Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said “I’m delighted to see this scheme progress. It will provide a greater choice of quality homes in Stockbridge Village, which will meet housing demands in the local area.”

The development of Barley Mow site is part-funded by a grant of £435,000 from the Government’s Disposal Proceeds Fund.

Property Alliance Group is working with VHA to deliver the scheme, along with construction firm Ecogee and Lymm-based architect Eden Building Design.

The Barley Mow development will comprise 10 one-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom houses.

Headquartered in Eccles, ForViva group includes City West Housing Trust, Villages Housing Association and construction company ForWorks.
