Focus on lettings as Kampus nears finish
Rochelle Silverstein, formerly of Allied London, has been appointed head of commercial to drive retail and leisure lettings at the £250m Kampus.
Silverstein spent five years as associate director of retail and leisure at Allied London, where she worked on Spinningfields, London Road Fire Station and St John’s.
A joint venture between Henry Boot Developments and Capital & Centric, the Kampus development on Aytoun Street, Manchester, is under construction with doors due to open in summer 2020.
Kampus will feature over 500 apartments with 45,000 sq ft for independent bars, restaurants, cafes, wellness and shops across five buildings.
Listed warehouses Minto & Turner include ground floor retail space
Kampus is the redevelopment of a former Manchester Metropolitan University site into a new neighbourhood with 533 apartments, two gardens, bars, restaurants and shops. The scheme was designed by Mecanoo, with Chapman Taylor progressing with the project as delivery architect, and Exterior Architecture advising as landscape architect. Mount Anvil is the contractor.
There are a mix of building being refurbished or constructed.
Minto & Turner and Minshull House, two grade two-listed Victorian shipping warehouses are being converted into loft-style apartments with commercial uses on the ground floor, with access onto Little David Street.
Also being developed is The Stack, a former Manchester Met tower which is being converted into 123 apartments. Alongside the buildings being restored are two new-build towers, North and South block. Each are 15 storeys, and total 352 apartments. There are also 10 Dutch houses being built along the roof.

I agree with Cllr Wheeler but I would only make them available to Mancunians who currently live in a septic tank, get up half an hour before they go to bed and have hand fulls of hot gravel for breakfast.

Please could you define Mancunian to me cllr Wheeler? I moved here 6 years ago, do you class me as Mancunian yet? What about people who have decided to make Manchester their home in the last year, are they Mancunian? What about people looking to move to Manchester as it is a great city, are you going to pull the draw bridge up and tell them they are not welcome?

Congratulations to the developers of this scheme for their vision and endeavour. I look forward to is completion. I think it will be a great addition to the city and a great template for similar sites going forward. As for the facile comment from Cllr Wheeler, he makes me ashamed to be a Mancunian. He seems cut from the same cloth as those from the Brexit Party: anti outsider and full of entitlement due to birthright.

Cllr Wheeler. What is a “Mancunian” ? I consider myself one, as I spent the first 20 years of my life there, but I haven’t lived in Manchester for 25 years (currently living in New York), although I visit every month for the footy / family. I also consider new arrivals who’ve decided to make Manchester their home in this lovely cosmopolitan city as Mancunians. Would love to hear what you define a mancunian as ! We all know that these home WON’T be cheap and anyway they are available on a rental basis only.

I think you’ll find that the Cllr Wheeler above is an impostor satirising the alleged views of said councillor. However they don’t seem to be far off the mark. You can see the noble councillor in action on the council’s webcasts of planning meetings. I think he’d probably hate the Brexiteer comparison but would also no doubt fail to see the ways in which he is comparable.

These places won’t be cheap. A flat is on the market on Canal street for over a million pounds. Who exactly do we want in our city centre? I don’t mind keyworkers having these places, i.e Nurses, Firemen, paramedics etc but I am not sure why some people think that every development should make social housing provision. I can’t afford to live in the centre realistically now and I accept that and live where I can afford. This Mancunian only comment is pathetic. I would like this city to attract ambitious, successful people and I really couldn’t care less where they were born.

I don’t think Cllr Wheeler really posted that comment I think someone is pulling our legs however it is not far off the views of many on the very far left who would like only social housing to be built but they are as bad as the far right who don’t want any social housing built.
Anyway the KAMPUS scheme looks great and will I am sure be enjoyed by born and bred Mancunians, adopted Mancunians and visitors to our city.
