First Choice Homes Oldham picks Gifford for chief

Mark Gifford will take the reins of the 11,500-home-strong housing association, working to build housing and manage properties and their communities across Oldham and its surrounding areas.

As chief executive of First Choice Homes Oldham, the building of much-needed family homes will be Gifford’s top priority tied with ensuring such communities are safe and successful.

He began work on Monday, replacing interim chief executive Anne McLoughlin.

Gifford, who is locally based, said: “This area is a huge part of my life and where I call home.”

“This is a long-term role and one I feel I have worked towards throughout my professional career.”

Gifford added: “My aim is to build on the tremendous work FCHO has achieved already.

“Our priorities will be to focus on our customers and our important role in Oldham as a major landlord and employer.”

Gifford has previously worked for the National Citizen Service, a programme that helps build life skills and instils a sense of community in young people.

Prior to working with the NCS, Gifford led all Waitrose supermarkets, holding various senior roles with the John Lewis Partnership.

Commenting on the appointment, chair of FCHO board Amanda Harris, said: “We have been extremely impressed with his values-driven, passionate, and inspiring leadership approach that aligns very closely to our own values and ambitions.

“Mark’s wealth of experience, plus his strong knowledge of the local area, will help take us forward and deliver our vision of providing quality homes, fostering pride, and enhancing lives in our communities.”

According to the housing association, FCHO accommodates around 10% of Oldham’s local population with properties it owns.
