Fifield Glyn founder dies

John Fifield has died at the age of 78 after a short stay in hospital, the company has confirmed.

A statement published by Fifield Glyn Chartered Surveyors said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founder John Fifield, who sadly passed away on 21 January 2025”.

Fifield set up the practice in Manchester in 1975 with his late wife Ros. The company relocated to Gadbrook Park in Cheshire in 1991.

Fifield was also the joint founder of the Osborne House Group, the developer behind Gadbrook Park.

He was also chairman of the Greater Manchester Branch of RICS in 1990 and president of the Manchester Society of Land Agents & Surveyors in 2001.

He is survived by three children Edward Fifield, Charles Fifield, and Victoria Mead, who are all involved in the family business.

Richard Smith, director at Fifield Glyn, said: “Everyone at Fifield Glyn is shocked and saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of John Fifield. John was a prominent and well-known character in the North West property world, and I know he left a lasting impression on all those who had dealings with him both professionally and personally.

“John had his own clear views and opinions that were both interesting, unique, and thought-provoking. His larger-than-life personality meant anyone who spent time in his company would always remember him as someone who was engaging, gregarious, and hugely entertaining.”
