Empowering Communities: A Gold Award Knowledge Sharing Conference 31 October 2007 Location: The Lifestyle Centre Willow Park Housing Trust Wythenshawe Manchester The Housing Corporation launched the Gold Award to identify and share best practice in order to support improvement in the sector. Each year Awards are given to applicants under themes relevant to social housing. These knowledge sharing conferences are aimed at housing providers who seek to improve their performance or begin working in previously uncharted territory. Delegates will have the opportunity to find out more about what Gold winners have done to earn their Award and will be able to pick up new ideas, tips and strategies to help them with their own work programmes. Empowering Communities: The provision of housing should be much more than just building and maintaining houses and flats. People's homes are only one ingredient in a complex network of factors that determine the quality of people's lives. It takes energy, imagination and dedication to empower communities through a wide range of diverse policies and practices. Creating and supporting sustainable communities can enrich the quality and value of the lives of individuals and groups of people who share common backgrounds and interests. Sharing with Gold: Conference delegates will have the opportunity to participate in themed workshops. These breakout groups will be interactive and encourage the sharing of success and experiences among delegates and Gold winners. A key focus of the day will be identifying common issues, developing shared solutions, overcoming barriers and develping strong peer networks. Delegates will be able to explore new approaches and ideas to take back for adaptation in their own organisation, as well as forging the foundations for longer term initiatives which can be supported by the winners.
