Understanding Townscape and Landscape

Urban design for smaller sites: A practical workshop:

As good design increasingly gains priority on the national agenda planners need to be positioned to influence and implement high standards of design at all scales. If you’d like to sharpen your skills or understand how you can use urban design as a planner join us for a hands-on workshop. Our aim is to help you understand the important role of urban design in delivering contextually responsive schemes for small and medium sized sites. With so much guidance focused on larger strategic sites these smaller sites are often forgotten and under resourced. The session, based on a real site, will focus on developing a suite of practical skills for planners from all sectors ranging from undertaking robust site analysis through to thinking about setting strong design-led guidance and codes for sites, before concluding with developing different design options. The workshop is suitable for a range of backgrounds and abilities. Come prepared to sketch, debate and collaborate.

Speakers to be confirmed.
