RIBA Health Client Forum Regional Debates – Architectural Solutions for a Changing Health Sector in the UK

To accompany the RIBA's touring exhibition celebrating design quality in UK health buildings, the Health Client Forum hosts two evening events

13 October : Understanding Patient Needs and Client/Practitioner Relations

6pm – 9pm

The award-winning specialist care centre Skypad is the case study, illustrating how the local community, teenage cancer patients, families and the local NHS Trust worked closely to ensure a facility that integrates clinical and non-clinical functions in a young people's environment. The speakers include John McRae, Director ORMS Architecture Design and Simon Davies, CEO, Teenage Cancer Trust. The programme will also include a film on Skypad Cardiff providing feedback from patients and staff.

20 October : The Effective use of Healthcare Estates

6pm – 9pm

The second North West debate is in collaboration with Swanke Hayden Connell. The event will explore Quality, Equality, the impact of the White Paper on the estates' size or condition and procurement methods to rectify any imbalance. The areas covered will include:

  • Mansfield Community Hospital: an exhibition case study
  • an architect's view of how the White Paper supports full integration of community healthcare provision
  • preservation of quality in the built environment as a product of/or reflection of enhanced service quality
  • redevelopment / replacement of community healthcare estate; a developers perspective.
