International law firm, Trowers & Hamlins is holding free seminars in their Manchester office, accompanied by Richard Petty of JLL, to consider what the changes in the sector mean for property security and valuation. There will be time for discussion and a chance to network over lunch.

Aimed at finance experts and in-house legal specialists, this seminar will look at both legislative and policy changes and their practical implications, lessons learned in our experience of charging large portfolios and help you to be ready to take advantage of new opportunities. As registered providers diversify their stock, we will consider the implications for property security.

The established order in the valuation of affordable housing is facing unprecedented levels of challenge, both in volume and complexity. Following the passing of the Housing & Planning Act 2016, we are awaiting secondary legislation which will bring in deregulatory measures including liberating disposals and repealing S.133 of the Housing Act 1988. How will RPs respond to their new freedoms when granted? Will their established social ethos prevail; or will they increasingly start to operate in a commercial fashion? How, in turn, will that affect their judgements of value on the basis of EUV-SH? What will the funders make of it all and what will they accept in terms of valuation? And what will RICS do as the controlling power over the valuation profession?

The seminar will explore these challenging issues and welcome contributions from delegates on their organisations’ take on the changes.
