The North West Construction Knowledge Hub is a three-year project with the aim of giving small and medium-sized construction firms in the North West the knowledge to better manage their carbon and waste impacts and provide support and guidance for construction businesses in the region, to help them to become more productive, cost effective and efficient.

As part of the NWCKH, BRE will be kicking off 2011 with several topical workshops at CUBE Gallery, Manchester including:

Passivhaus Awareness Workshop

11 January & 24 March 2011 8.30am – 1pm on both dates

The Passivhaus Standard is the fastest growing low energy standard in Europe with over 20,000 building realised to date, with many more currently being designed and constructed. Passivhaus buildings have a high level of indoor air quality and roughly achieve a 75% reduction in space heating requirements compared to the standard practice for UK new build.

This introductory course is aimed at all those with an interest in low-energy design, construction and the Passivhaus standard. It introduces the delegates to the Passivhaus principles walking them through best practice construction techniques whilst highlighting the outline specification and certification criteria. The course will also introduce the delegates to the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP), the design and certification tool used to model the Passivhaus.
