Place North West has teamed up with leading law firm Hill Dickinson and specialist environmental consultants RSK Group to bring you two free breakfast seminars. 7 October 8:15am-10:30am Hill Dickinson, No1 St Paul’s Square, Old Hall Street, Liverpool, L3 9SJ 16 October 8:15am-10:30am Lancashire County Cricket Club, Talbot Road, Old Trafford, Manchester M16 0PX Registration at 8:15am will be followed by networking and refreshments before the presentations. Speakers: Denise Dowen, partner, Hill Dickinson, on the new Environmental Liability Directive. The new directive is looming large on the horizon; in seeking to achieve the prevention and remedying of environmental damage and reinforcing the ‘polluter pays’ principle what, in reality, are going to be the main implications of the new legislation? Warren Percival, principal environmental consultant, RSK Group, on Site Waste Management Plans. Do you understand the basic waste legislative framework in the UK, SWMP legislation and how this is likely to affect your organisation? Delegates will be walked through the process of creating a SWMP, the key steps to take, and what support is out there in the marketplace to assist you and your organisation. Alan Pugh, partner, Hill Dickinson, on the legal risks of contaminated land. Are you aware of the risks of purchasing a brownfield site which was previously owned by a former nationalised body or defunct local authority? This short session will briefly take you through the legal framework governing the contaminated land regime. Peter Witherington, group deputy chairman, RSK Group, offers a practical perspective on dealing with land contamination. Even though in the UK we have been trying to establish a framework for dealing with contaminated land for the last 20 years, we still have numerous uncertainties and obstacles to negotiate during the redevelopment process. This session will look at the current regulatory framework, describe the risk-based approach and look at the pitfalls. There will be a chance for questions and answers and further networking before closing around 10:30am. To book a place at one of the breakfasts please reply to rsvp@rdpr.co.uk quoting Liverpool or Manchester in the subject box, alternatively call Kate Saunders on 0161 236 1122. As the number of spaces is strictly limited, please reply promptly to ensure your place. Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing you there, Paul Unger Place North West
