Slater Heelis Law’s next ‘In Conversation with..’ guest is Nick Johnson, a pivotal player in the evolution of Manchester from grey Northern outpost into original modern city.
His input has influenced the sensitive redevelopment of Castlefield, rebuilding the city centre after the IRA bomb and redefining city living through his role as deputy chief executive of Urban Splash.
He had a seat on numerous design and urban development committees and for seven years was chairman of Marketing Manchester.
In 2012 he quit them all emerging a year later as the franchise holder for Altrincham Market. He and his partner Jenny sunk £200,000 of their own money, and twice as much of Trafford Council’s, to transform the market into an incredibly successful food destination whose ripples have revitalised the rest of the town centre.
Last month a similar operation opened in the Grade II listed Mackie Mayor building in Manchester and has been packed ever since.
Chatting to Chris Maguire, Bolton School old boy Nick will be reviewing how cities and regions are being redefined and revealing important lessons for the future.
