Hill Dickinson Autumn Property Update | Liverpool

Date: 30 November 2016 - 30 November 2016, 8:30 - 10:30

Location: Liverpool

Hill Dickinson is delighted to be running this latest series of property updates throughout autumn.

The stamp collector Bill Chandler, legal director, Hill Dickinson

The taxation of property transactions has evolved from the manageable simplicity of stamp duty to the tortuous labyrinth of stamp duty land tax. We follow fictional client Phil Ately through a series of transactions that highlight major recent developments in SDLT (including the move to the ‘slice’ system and the higher rates for second homes and buy-to-lets), before examining current proposals for further reform and a new tax for Wales.

Unopposed lease renewals Kevin Lee, partner and Ralph Bullivant, partner, Hill Dickinson

Kevin and Ralph will provide an insight into unopposed lease renewals. It is unusual for an unopposed lease renewal to go all the way to trial. However there have been three decisions over the last three months which assist in giving an insight into how a court might actually deal with a lease renewal and in particular how they might deal with disputes regarding break clauses, rent free periods and determining the rent. The cases also highlight the need for independent expert valuation evidence.

Planning problems and remedies Grant Anderson, partner, Hill Dickinson

Grant will look at some of the practical issues and problems that arise during the planning application process – in particular this will include issues around the failure to validate a planning application, the scope to amend schemes during the application process and when planning permission has been granted, and interpreting what the planning permission actually means. Grant will also consider the remedies and solutions available to resolve such disputes.
