Manchester’s ambition is to become one of the leading green cities in Europe. Housing is responsible for 27% of our carbon emissions and by 2050, or earlier, Manchester wishes to see all our new and existing stock with very low or zero carbon output and running on clean energy.

At the same time the Greater Manchester Spacial Framework will be re-issued in June and is likely seek the creation of around 230,000 net new homes up to 2035, suitably sited to give good public transport accessibility, 40,000 in Manchester city centre alone, and to ‘deliver the highest standards of sustainable design’.

In response to these twin challenges, our seminar will appropriately focus on the design of medium and high density, low to zero carbon homes enabling us to meet Manchester’s targets.  Mark Bryan of TÜV SÜD will demonstrate, based on their research and project delivery, how higher density residential development in our towns and cities can meet the Zero Carbon Home standard now.
