With the Government’s increasing focus on sustainable development, many clients are recognizing the need to prove that their buildings are built with sustainability in mind.

The sourcing, manufacturing, use and ultimate disposal of materials and components must take account of their environmental impacts, including those affecting climate, biodiversity and air quality, and embracing ethical considerations of extraction impacts, labour and health.

BRE recently launched the latest version of BREEAM. In this significant update the Materials category encourages whole life cycle assessment and recognises construction products with independently verified Environmental Product Declarations.

Tony Woodford of BRE will explain how these changes will affect those who specify and procure materials with particular reference to the Green Guide to Specification, the Environmental Profiles Certification scheme and the 15804 Verification scheme, ensuring the effective delivery of sustainable projects.
