Constructing Excellence, University of Salford, Salford City College and Salford City Council are seeking help from organisations operating in the construction industry within the North West to act as mentors and offer pledges of employment opportunities to interns and apprenticeships.
These organisations are collaborating with two North West construction companies Whitfield & Brown and Seddon Construction who in the true sense of collaboration are acting as facilitators, working together to help form a “route map” for people considering a career in construction.
The recent forecast for Greater Manchester suggests an additional 19,000 jobs in the construction sector by 2035 to meet predicted demand. Not only do we face competition from other more ‘attractive’ industries but with the introduction of the Apprentice Levy and rising economic pressure employers, training providers and high education establishments will have to work together to meet the skills shortage.
Futureproofing Construction showcases one such group of organisations who are working as a team to deliver opportunities, training and the right candidate to fill these roles.
This event being held on 23 March 2017 at University of Salford, Mediacity, will see a variety of key note speakers addressing the challenges being faced, how we can collectively positively promote construction, entice and encourage young people into the industry and how we can meet the aspirational goals set by the government with the provision of skills to meet demand.
Hosted by Roy Cavanagh MBE, during the event you will hear from:
- Don Ward, Chief Executive of Constructing Excellence
- Sarah Scanlan, Salford City Council
- Tony Costello, Head of Training at Seddon
- Ruth Osborne-Thompson, Salford City College
- Carl Abbott, University of Salford
- Zoe Brooke, Director of Whitfield & Brown Limited
