Future trends in public procurement and opportunities for SMEs

Date: 4 November 2009, 7:00 - 12:00

Over the next 5 years trends in public investment in construction will place a number of challenges on the organisations involved including value for money, carbon and communities.

The North West Regional and Improvement Partnership is currently funding a project to set-up construction related framework agreements with the potential to make significant efficiency savings.

These frameworks are expected to be the largest and most ambitious collaborative procurement exercise for construction projects of its kind in the region. The frameworks will draw on the extensive experience of procuring and managing frameworks across the region and beyond.

The North West Construction Hub has been given a mandate from the sub regions to procure three frameworks giving organisations the opportunity to link similar projects from across the region, such as the schools' Primary Capital Programme, into single programmes of work.

The Seminar will cover the following areas as an introduction:

  • What is The North West Regional and Improvement Partnership?
  • The North West Construction Hub and its role within North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership
  • The '3 Framework Mandate' (Medium/High/Low)
  • How Organisations will need to respond to this

Speaker: John Finlay, procurement manager, corporate technical services management team, Manchester City Council
