The Sustainability Agenda and The Olympic Games London 2012

Guest Speaker:

Shaun McCarthy

Chair of the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012

Sustainable development was a centrepiece of London's successful bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. From decisions on how suppliers and sponsorship partners are chosen, to tackling global issues such as climate change, the London Games are set to make history. The Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 advises the Olympic Board on sustainable development across the entire Games programme, from delivery to staging and legacy.

The Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 published its report into Carbon Management for the London Olympics in December 2009. The report celebrates best practice but also presents a challenge related to the discovery that 67% of carbon is embodied in construction.

Chairman Shaun McCarthy will present some astonishing and challenging fifi ndings and recommendations.
