Evaluating social value in built environment projects

There is growing evidence that many publically funded projects and some private project tenders call for the inclusion of social value in both the design and the operation of both new build and retrofit construction projects. Those wishing to be competitive bidders and those wishing to differentiate between tenders with a degree of skill and expertise will be interested in attending this course.

Using methods adapted from the social enterprise and ecosystem services disciplines, these courses will cover both the theory and the practice of this exciting new technique. Case studies will be presented that exemplify the approach and delegates will have the chance to try out each stage of the process through worked examples.

Morning session: an introduction to the topic designed to impart basic awareness of the topic. Fundamentals and key issues will be addressed;

Afternoon session: appropriate for all levels and follows on from the morning session. Novices and experienced participants alike will benefit, gaining a real understanding and comprehension of the topic.

How to scope projects and identify key stakeholders

How to map and value outcomes

How to establish impacts

How to calculate return on investment

How to verify the results

The Evaluation of Social Value course is designed to appeal to a wide audience across all built environment sectors and assumes no prior knowledge of valuation or sustainable development. There is no minimum entry qualification or competency level.

Morning session only: £375 per delegate

Morning & Afternoon sessions: £650 per delegate

The course will be delivered by Prof Erik Bichard who has worked with many built environment partners in the US and the UK to perfect the creation and evaluation of social value and believes that 'Sustainable Return on Investment' will become an industry standard as new financial instruments such as social impact bonds become a significant source of capital in the future.
