The next Building and Development Section lunch will be held on the 28th September 2007 with Guest Speaker; Eric Stokes, North West Chairman for the Chartered Institute of Building.
Eric initially qualified as an mechanical engineer with Henry Simon Ltd but then became involved in building design activities with another member of the Simon Group (Simon-Build) in Stockport. Subsequent qualification as a professional Chartered Builder led to the successful direction of a design and build company undertaking prestige turnkey projects for the brewing and hotel industry learning to work to very tight schedules and advanced briefs. Following guest lecturing appearances at Manchester, Stockport and Salford colleges he was invited to join the University of Salford as a permanent member of staff. This challenge was diametrically opposed to all previous industrial experiences and for the last 17 years has proved to be one of the most rewarding and absorbing.
Currently Programme Director for Construction Project Management in the highest research rated (6*) School of the Built Environment in the UK. He is also Associate Director of Construct-IT, a Research Centre and innovative industry led network of the largest UK and international construction IT providers. Construct-IT received the highest award for its activities when it won the Queens Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education.
Eric is the North West Branch chairman for the Chartered Institute of Building which is the leading Institution for managers in construction having over 43000 members worldwide and offices in Australasia, Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and China. The North West Branch of the CIOB comprises six Centres: Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Cumbria; Lancashire; Liverpool; and the Isle of Man. Centres are responsible for delivering a full menu of current topic CPD to all CIOB members in the NW region.
