BCO Technical Tour – Piccadilly Basin, BDP Studio and Carvers Warehouse, Manchester

Date: 26 March 2009, 4:30 - 12:00

Location: BDP, Manchester Studio, 11 Ducie Street, Manchester M1 2JB and Carvers Ware

The BCO’s Northern Chapter invites you to Piccadilly Basin, an award winning waterside, mixed use development spanning almost 13 acres. Located at the gateway to the Basin, the BDP Studio and Carver’s Warehouse buildings are the two latest office projects to be completed at the Town Centre Securities PLC development. Venue: BDP, Manchester Studio, 11 Ducie Street, Manchester M1 2JB and Carvers Warehouse, 77 Dale Street, Manchester M1 2HG The BDP Studio, designed by BDP Architects, is recognised as the first naturally ventilated office building in Manchester to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating and has also been certified as a carbon neutral development. The design embraces a number of key sustainable features, including: a high quality concrete frame with exposed soffits providing thermal mass; night time cooling via hoppers controlled by the BMS system; natural ventilation and a living roof (a habitat for the endangered Redstart birds). Carver’s Warehouse is the oldest surviving warehouse and the only stone built one within Manchester City Centre. Restored and converted to offices in 2008 it ranks as one of the most important buildings in Manchester’s Industrial Heritage. The building’s potential to provide high quality office accommodation with great character has been realised and provides a positive contribution to the developing Piccadilly Basin. Comprising six floors of offices with a ground floor deli café the property is substantially let to a variety of office users.
