Edge Hill halls approved

Edge Hill University has been successful in its planning application to provide an additional 245-bedroom hall of residence on the eastern campus in Ormskirk.

The proposed development is part of the university's objective to provide residential accommodation on or near campus for a high proportion of students to maximise contribution to campus life.

The project represents the eighth phase of residential development at the university. Enabling works have already started on site, with the accommodation due to be completed in time for the start of the new academic year in 2014.

The project team is led by Turner & Townsend, and includes ABW Architects, Drosinos, Turleys, MDP Project Services, Highet Project Management, Integra, Aecom and AJP Structural Engineers.

David Williams, head of the North West office of Turner & Townsend, said "We are seeing a growing trend in student accommodation, and this latest development adds to the growing expertise and projects we have established in the North West."
